Fiona Bruce is top of the bottoms for 2010

And Ricky Whittle scoops the male ‘Rear of the Year’ award

Newsreader and TV presenter Fiona Bruce and actor Ricky Whittle are the winners of the 28th ‘Rear of the Year’ awards.

Fiona received a deluge of votes for the 2010 Wizard Jeans Rear of the Year title at the official web site www.rearoftheyearcompetition.com during the first half of this year after TV viewers wrote to ‘Points of View’, commenting on the tight, denim jeans she wore during a documentary about Queen Victoria.

Fiona said today; “This award has caused some hilarity among family, friends, and colleagues, as you might imagine. What I tell them, when they’ve picked themselves up off the floor, is that if someone had told me I’d been nominated for this twenty years ago, I’d have poked them in the eye. Now I’m just flattered anyone’s still looking.”

Ricky Whittle played Calvin Valentine in ‘Hollyoaks’ until his untimely on-screen demise last month and was runner-up in the last ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ competition, where he lost two stone practising the gruelling dance routines. Like Fiona, he also received a whopping vote.

He said today; “I’m honoured and very flattered to have been named Rear of the Year – although my mum has been telling me it’s my best side since I was a kid.”

Sally Allen of Wizard Jeans said; “We are delighted to be the fashion brand behind the Rear of the Year awards and to offer our congratulations to Fiona and Ricky, two fine examples of the perfect rear. Our unique ‘wizard’ style and contouring technology is designed to make any man and woman look and feel like a winner at all times.”

Tony Edwards, who organises the annual awards, said that both Fiona and Ricky were worthy winners. “They’ve been high on the list of 2010 nominations since the beginning of the year and have clearly enjoyed amazing public support. This continues to be the era of the well-toned rear when people are taking care of their bodies with keep-fit regimes and visits to the gym. Fiona and Ricky typify the look.”

Edwards believes that the rear often dictates fashion trends. For proof he refers to the changing female silhouette over the past half century. “In the 1950’s, Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe’s ample, rounded rears would have been high fashion but, within a decade, ‘Twiggy’ and Jean ‘The Shrimp’ Shrimpton, with their ultra-slim shapes, dominated the 1960’s. In both cases, the fashions followed the female form – in particular the size and shape of the rear. 2010 is a continuation of the era of aerobics, jogging, gym work-outs and the keep-fit life-style. As a result, the rear has become well-toned, rounded but pert and, above all, firm rather than fleshy. Wizard Jeans undoubtedly compliments that healthy, well-toned look by giving an added lift to the rear.”
